Publications

a few publications from my dark mathematical past.

Inverse Rational L1

an existence result in approximation by rational functions in the L1 norm

Piecewise Polynomial L1 Approximation

an algorithm for finding an L1 best approximation from a non-linear family

which simulataneously demonstrates unicity.  With Jerry Wolfe, my `doctor

      father'.

Confusing Clocks

an in-depth look at a well-known question from recreational mathematics.

With my friend, Ben Ford, from graduate school, an an undergraduate student

        of his, Corey Franzmeier.

Student Evaluations - A Statistical Look

A statistical examination of student evaluations of teaching at a place on

the dusty old high plains (OK, BHSU) where I once taught. The upshot is: they

convey very little useful information and are a direct reflection of the lack of

      rigor in grading practices.
